How Do I Finance My Dream Career Without Selling My Soul

“How Do I Finance My Dream Career Without Selling My Soul” Help from our Community “How Do I Finance My Dream Career Without Selling My Soul?” * Chris wants to become a screenwriter, but knows he'll need another source of income until he hits the big time. Will he have to compromise his dreams to pay his bills? And why don't his friends and family understand? What's your career history and current job? I initially started out training to be a solicitor, but even after qualifying I never really enjoyed it, and my enthusiasm for the job quickly waned. I tried working at several other firms but eventually left because I hated what I was doing; I dreaded waking up each morning. I couldn't handle going back to law, even in the short term, and as I'm quite numerically skilled I decided to start an accountancy course. How do you feel about your work? I'm worried that I'm committing both time and money to studying for something I don't want to do in the long term, and which I know I will drop as soon as I can get started doing what I actually enjoy. What would you like to be doing instead? My ideal career would be screenwriting. I've always been passionate about TV and love some of the complex characters / storylines that appear in TV and film. I bought screenwriting guides and started writing short screenplays at university (when I should have been writing my dissertation!) but it was only ever a secret hobby of mine. Nowadays, I regularly come up with new characters and plotlines for things I'm currently watching, not to mention original ideas that I'd like to turn into actual programmes. I started working on my own sitcom and several other ideas in my spare time, but haven't had the time to develop them. What's the biggest obstacle you're facing? My original screenplays / scripts have had to take a backseat to the accountancy training, as I'm under pressure to get it completed as soon as possible. I'm worried I'll get trapped on the accountancy path and screenwriting will just become a dream I never followed up. I don't really have anyone to talk to about this as all my friends work in professional jobs, which they claim to hate but would never consider leaving, and my family think my malaise is down to losing focus and being unambitious. None of my friends and family know about my goals, and they would no doubt be shocked if I announced that I was giving up a professional career to try my hand at something as unstable as being a writer. Can you help Chris? Is accountancy worth pursuing, even though it's just a 'means to an end'? What else could Chris do to stay afloat while he pursues his passion? Have you been in a similar situation, or are you in the same boat right now? Do you have any tips for Chris on how to break into screenwriting professionally? Practice Your Medical Writing Skills For Resume

Practice Your Medical Writing Skills For ResumeIf you are a medical professional, the first thing that you will need to do is to practice your medical writing skills for resume. One of the most effective ways to get practice on resume writing is to use it. After doing so, you should also practice using medical and educational vocabulary in your resume. This way, you can improve your writing skills without spending too much time on the task.Resume writing skills for resume should not be very hard if you have a general idea of what is needed. Of course, this will depend on your medical profession. As a doctor, you are supposed to have certain traits that are very important for successful resume writing. These include good writing and spelling, original research, clear and precise ideas, attention to detail, proper grammar, etc. All these things will make you stand out from the rest.It is important to mention the major accomplishments of the person in your resume. These must be written carefully. You may want to mention them in chronological order or even in the order in which they took place. This is especially important if you are working with a school in your educational history.Next, write about the specific terms that are very important for you. There are several terms that you will need to use in your resume. Some of these are; therapeutic service, service a student can expect from a medical professional, patient care, lab services, medical billing, x-ray services, dental office, etc. All these are critical words that must be written in your resume. Finally, you should highlight the most important key words in your resume. If you want to create a better and more professional resume, you should learn how to use them.In addition, you should also practice your resume in the mirror to see how it looks. You can do this by writing your resume in your hand. Check if everything is correct and if there are any mistakes that you can correct.Lastly, do not send out your resume until you have gone through the process of practicing it yourself. You should be able to copy your work. You should be able to see the errors that you have made. So, by practicing it a few times, you will be able to make a better and more professional resume.

Test yourself Are you preachy, arrogant, and annoying

Test yourself Are you preachy, arrogant, and annoying The secret to the success of this blog is that instead of showing you how perfect my life is, I show  myself  drinking in the morning, before work. My husband is always worrying that I make us look bad, so he makes up rules like how I cant write about our sex life, and then I violate the rules while pretending to follow them. Like, I write about our not-having-sex life.  For example, its asparagus season so there is no oral sex because asparagus doesnt change the smell of just your pee. The truth is that you guys dont want to read anyone who thinks she knows everything, so I try to focus only on  what  Im unsure about. Like, should you stay with a guy who throws furniture? At the time I wasnt sure. So the post was interesting. Now Im pretty certain that unless that guy has a problem with drinking or drugs, you can stop relationship  problems by taking more responsibility for your interactions. It takes two people to fight. But you probably hated that paragraph because Im telling you how to run your life. If you really want instructions for how to run your life you can go to church. Its more fun to learn things together. Like heres something I just thought of: People are aging better and better. Like, 60 is 40 which must mean that 80 is 60 and 60-year-olds have sex which must mean that 80-year-olds will have sex. But men arent really living to 80, only women. So I think there will be a surge in gay sex in nursing homes. Im trying to think of how to capitalize on this trend. Maybe itll be a combination of sex aids  and nostalgic games  from the 70s. Noa Kageyamas  post last  week is about being right. Because hes a good blogger, Noa  blogs as he learns, and he recently learned about the Marshmallow Challenge, which is a great experiment and you should see this video  about it. Anyway, Noa points out that if you are really concerned with being right then you are less likely to be right because you dont test your knowledge. Because you are sure you are right. This stresses  me out because I like being right. Something I am right about is when Cassie or Melissa or other people who I sometimes want to kill tell me that Quistic is a flailing company, I tell them all startups are flailing companies until they are in the B round of funding, because all startups are really experiments to figure out what is right. I am right about that even though I am not sure what is right yet about online learning. Good startups flail. Good founders enjoy that feeling. So why cant I accept flailing  when it comes to  homeschooling? I want to line everyone up. Everyone in the whole world. And I want them to tell me that I am right about homeschooling and they wish they were me. They wish they were as brave as me. They wish they could trust their kids to learn as much as I trust my kids. I want to stand on top of the world and scream: Everyone who thinks I am more right than them about raising kids, raise your hand. And everyone raises their hand. Then I can be humble. People like humble. Its a social skills rule. Its why parents hate  people who are not parents. Because parents think kids make you humble and humility is a good trait. And its why people who dont have kids hate parents. Because people who think they are more humble than other people are actually preachy, arrogant, and unbearable. Speaking of preachy, arrogant, and unbearable, this is happening on my homeschool blog. I am getting so worried that people think Im wrong that I am yelling at everyone. I dont have time to be fun and charming and humble because I want to smash everyones head together until they think like me. But really, I am scared that Im doing something wrong with my kids. When Ive been scared before, I could hide it. Like, when I was in the mental hospital for postpartum depression, I just kept writing resume advice. But its hard to hide that Im homeschooling. It affects everything. And Im getting worse and worse at hiding.  Which is probably good. But Im still scared. I wish I didnt need other peoples  approval. The thing is, I dont care if you think nursing homes will be full of sex toys. I know Im right. I can move on. But I am stuck on  homeschool. I cant stand that people are sending their kids to school when I know they shouldnt. But I don’t want to  admit that  I’m unsure how to make homeschooling work. And I dont think its a coincidence that I starting taking anxiety medicine when I starting homeschooling. And it’s not a coincidence that right after I started homeschooling Melissa started sending me fidget toys so I don’t pick my cuticles from anxiety. And Im so nervous about not knowing what works to make a good life that I cant even post this post on my homeschool blog. I dont want anyone to know. I just remembered that I was going to make a quiz for this post  so  you can test yourself to see if you are preachy, arrogant, and annoying. Heres the test: What part of your life would you never tell your friend about? Whatever it is, thats where you are preachy and arrogant. You dont want to tell your friend so that you can pretend that you are good in that area. Secrets are the spots in our lives where we are most devoted to being preachy. So we all fail the test. A better test would be: which fear can you face today?  Find something no one  knows about you. Or only a few people know. That’s the thing that you can’t stand admitting because then you can’t be high and mighty about it. Its one of the hardest things to do. It’s the focus of the  majority of   coaching sessions I do. Invariably the thing that holds us back is we want to be admired for something that we do not actually deserve admiration for. Its that gap that makes us stuck. And right now Im suck in homeschooling hell.

How to Build Your Brand While Being in a Relationship - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

How to Build Your Brand While Being in a Relationship - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I spoke with Brenda Della Casa, who is a dating and relationship expert. Weve had a discussion about dating, as it relates to personal branding, in the past. Now its time to dive deeper into how successful relationships can work, while you are working hard to build your personal brand. Its not easy managing a relationship, while managing your career, at the same time. I have yet to succeed in doing this, but Brenda gives great advice in this interview. Brenda, how does a man brand himself as prince charming and how does a woman brand herself as Cinderella? I dont know that too many people actually brand themselves as Cinderella and the Prince but I do know there are plenty of intelligent, lovely, competent and complete women who buy into the idea that their life and accomplishments only have significance if they are in a relationship. Youve interviewed 1,000 guys (GOD help you). What were some of the comical responses you received? What do most guys want in relationships with women and the other way around? Many men, by nature, tend to approach things with a little less life or death seriousness than their female counterparts so a lot of the guys would throw in a joke here and there but all of the men I interviewed took the questions very seriously and gave straight and thoughtful answers. Some of the funnier answers made it into the back of the book. I had one man inform me they played Monopoly and drank diet coke at Bachelor Parties while another told me I could not know what happened because then we dont get to have them. Men and women are basically looking to get to the same destination; they just take different modes of transportation and drive at different speeds. Men want to be loved, appreciated, respected and romanced just as much as women want these things. They want to be heard and understood and to feel attractive, intelligent and desired the same as their wives and girlfriends do. While they may not want roses and little Tiffanys boxes, they want to know they matter and have someone relate to them and thats a common desire between the sexes. Ill tell you right now one thing they dont want which is to be solely responsible for their partners happiness or be expected to swoop in and save them. Why is modern romance so frustrating and strange? We live in a world of disposability and an obsession with what I call, The Bigger, Better Deal. We are the most connected-disconnected- society in the history of the world. Phone calls have been replaced with emails and text messages, cards with e-Cards, dates with a 15 minute cocktail meeting in which you are expected to audition for a dinner date. Dating has become less about romance and courtship than a large social networking opportunity with fringe benefits. Are people just waiting longer to get married because they want to focus on their career? While it is true that there are more women in the workplace and many men dont want to get married until they have their careers in order, there is more to it than that. Careers, lifestyles, heightened expectations and a change in social rules regarding dating and women in general have all attributed to men and women waiting longer to say I do. We live in a culture focused on instant gratification where the messages we get about men, women and what our lives should be are photo-shopped, airbrushed and spoon fed to us by PR and advertising companies. We have unrealistic ideas about what sex, dating, love, marriage, men, women and our lifestyles should be. Nothing ever measures up and we live in a constant state of less than. This has made it harder to get a second date, let alone get someone to commit. How can the average man or woman compete with our Brangelina ideals? What are 5 tips for finding the one you love? Be yourself! If you are too busy morphing into who you think someone wants you to be, neither of you will be comfortable in the relationship. The more authentic you are and the more you live your most authentic life, the better the chance to find someone who fits into that life. Be realistic. We are all human beings and that means that we will have flaws, make mistakes and quite possibly not have perfect thighs or the right color eyes but can very well still be a good match. Show everyone involved a little respect. This means not allowing yourself to be treated in a way that makes you feel bad and showing others the same courtesy. Dont say you will call if you dont plan to, dont forget to thank your date for the time they showed you, dont sleep with someone until youre ready or expecting it to change the dynamics of whatever relationship you have and so forth. When someone tells you who they are, believe them. If he says he isnt interested in committing, that isnt a challenge. Likewise, if she tells you she doesnt want children, dont expect your love to change her mind. Date Yourself! Instead of waiting for someone to share trips to the museum, try the bistro and visit Rome with yourself, go and live your life! Doing the things that make you feel happy and content will make you more attractive than any suit or pair of shoes will. What is the connection between being in a relationship with someone else and ones career? Do you need both at the same time? Is it possible to build a business from scratch, while being in a relationship and survive? Like all situations and relationships, the journey and the outcome depend on the person you are and the person you are with. Balancing a relationship and a career, especially one as an entrepreneur, is definitely a delicate balance. The person starting the business is going to need a lot of understanding and support from their partner but that doesnt mean they can ignore their partners needs and the relationship all day, every day for five years. I have found that the couples who have the most successful relationships are those who are able to communicate their needs to their partner while empathizing with them at the same time. Relationships are more than roses, champagne and date night. They are about working together as a team to build a better life together and sacrificing for long-term goals while finding ways to celebrate the here and now. Brenda Della Casa is an internationally published author and casting producer who has spent the last eight years interviewing single, married and divorced men and women for a variety of television shows and articles. Her new book is called Cinderella Was a Liar: The Real Reason You Cannot Find (or Keep) a Prince, which has been published in five languages. Brenda is a columnist for Divorce360.com and is the Dear Luv Lady for Lifetime Online. She has been featured in Cosmopolitan, iVillage, FHM, Mens Health, Health Fitness, Cosmopolitan, The New York Daily News, Glamour, Scarlet, Seventeen, Bliss, Company, Elle, and many others. Oprah Winfrey Career Modeling at Its Finest - Hire Imaging

Oprah Winfrey Career Modeling at Its Finest - Hire Imaging Along with millions of others, I watched the final Oprah Winfrey Show this week. Although not an Oprah groupie by any means, I’m a fan; and I have felt a connection. The first year her show aired was the same year I welcomed the younger of my two children into the worldâ€"a son who is getting married this year. That’s quite a ride in terms of tracking Ms. Winfrey’s career. And whether you’re an Oprah follower or not, it is a career legacy with inspiration. Oprah Winfrey: Non-impressive beginnings So, I sat holding my baby, tuned in while Oprah embarked on a new Chicago-based career journey. In her very personal conversation with her global audience on this week’s show, Oprah reflected on that time: I didn’t have a vision or a lot of great expectations … I just wanted to do a good job and cause no harm. That first day was a shock to me. There was no audience. After that first show, we put up some folding chairs in the audience. We brought in the staff. Secretaries. Anybody we could find in the building, and filled the first rows with staff people and the rest with people off the street that we bribed with doughnuts and coffee, and we’d say, ‘Come in.’” Oprah Winfrey: It got much better Oprah Gail Winfrey is the American dream; the pull-yourself-up from your own bootstraps career inspiration. It’s the stuff worthy of a thesis, a book, certainly this post. Through the years, the lady has become a brand. But right now, I want to look back to that time when I watched without either skepticism or antagonism. I just gave her a chance. And now, 25 years later, I share with you three of my Oprah Winfrey careerisms: Keep the faith and go with the flow. Bosses, colleagueseven a voice coach (mandated by her TV-station employer)â€"told Oprah she would never make it on television. They dug deeper, and it was personal. Her approach wasn’t right. Her look wasn’t right. Her Baltimore employer dictated a hair straightening that made her bald and forced her to wear a wig for many weeks. Upon arriving in Chicago, she was called “A Jheri curl and bad fur coat.” The point is that there was no red carpet laid out. In fact, many people did not believe in her. She no doubt had doubts! She certainly slipped up along the way. Think weight loss and weight gained back while role modeling this concept for millions. She acknowledged, learned and stayed the course. Give value to those you serve. Some forgetâ€"or weren’t aroundâ€"to remember that at one time, Oprah’s show was a Jerry Springerish tell-all on cheating spouses and other such sordid tales. And in one of her (she coined the phrase) “ah-hah moments,” she said, “No. This is not what the people want.” Fast track through the next 20+ years. She gave her audienceus (think customers or employers) insightful and moving interviews, freeing messages … well too much to list here. But in a word, she gave us integrity. We lapped it up. We have to know what kind of people we want to work for, and what they need. Then we have to deliver. Isn’t that a good definition of career success? Surround yourself with motivating humans. No matter how independent we might be, our ability to move forward in our careers is greatly dependent on others. This is an Oprah lesson. She devours books and teachings. She learns from others. She is inspired by them. She connects with them. She makes them part of her world. She draws from their strengths. She collaborates with them. It’s almost a chicken and egg conundrum. Did she create stars out of Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz; or did she have the good sense to choose partners who complemented her value- and customer-driven mission? In this farewell show, Ms. Winfrey repeated her mandate: To allow people to understand they have the power to change their own lives.” For me, that’s it in a nutshell: power. None of us has to aspire to her level of influence. We have to just take our power to be our best. It’s that simple and that difficult. Do you have thoughts to share on Oprah’s career influence on your life? I’d love to hear from you! Photo:   Rabeea Arif
